Gain a deep understanding of mental health issues and treatment that will enable you to make responsible, complex decisions and develop in your role as a qualified professional.

As part of this course, you’ll:

  • Explore advances in contemporary mental healthcare
  • Gain a comprehensive and advanced understanding of mental health issues
  • Consider the fundamental assumptions which underpin attitudes to mental illness
  • Study current issues, debates and research into mental health and treatment

Teaching expertise

You’ll be taught by a team of academics with a breadth of experience and expertise in mental healthcare. Your learning will be supported by guest speakers and experts from our industry partners. You’ll also gain insight into the sector via modules which have been developed in partnership with stakeholders including students, graduates and professional practitioners.

Study centred around you

You’ll build an individualised programme of study throughout your course by choosing from a range of option modules from different subject areas. This will help tailor your learning so it’s relevant to your practice interests and professional development. You’ll conclude your studies by planning and conducting your own research project.

Entry requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subjects of healthcare, counselling, psychotherapy, mental health, nursing, occupational therapy or social work, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
