MSc Strategic Project Management

COURSE OVERVIEW

Designed for those already experienced in managing projects, as well as strategy implementers and makers, and those who wish to enhance the success of their projects, this accredited course will equip you with skills in decision making, motivation and the development and delivery of successful business strategies.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on the latest issues in strategic project management, discovering better ways to manage projects
• Critically analyse and prepare effective strategies that will benefit organisations and their stakeholders
• Evaluate approaches to strategic implementation through programme and portfolio management technique

The successful achievement of an organisation’s strategy is now increasingly dependent on the effective delivery of projects and programmes that have recognisable benefits to a wide range of stakeholders. Project managers with strategic thinking and planning skills are therefore becoming key in a range of organisations and sectors.

This course will equip you with the skills to critically analyse and prepare effective strategies that have the potential to add significant value to an organisation and its stakeholders.

The course is accredited by the Association for Project Management, the UK chartered professional body for project professionals. Following graduation and experience, you’ll be able to apply for full membership and then apply for chartered status.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in Project Management, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
