Course info

This Primary with SEND (5-11) PGCE is an exceptional opportunity for anyone interested in progressing their teaching career in a specialist SEND setting, or as an SEND specialist in mainstream schools, becoming a SENDCo or Inclusion Leader in the future. We work closely in partnership with a range of specialist SEND schools who will provide a breadth of expertise to enrich your experience as a trainee. You will have the opportunity to observe and work closely with expert SEND practitioners as part of your second placement. By the end of this primary education with SEND course you will be assessed for accreditation with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which is the essential professional accreditation for all teachers. Our PGCE trainees attain high results with almost 100% passing the course, and very high rates of employment. Many of our trainees gain employment in their placement schools. We are well connected with a range of partnership schools and have excellent long standing relationships with diverse settings across London. This Primary with SEND course also offers you the opportunity to gain experience as a mainstream teacher, enabling you to gain QTS and giving you the ability to choose where to work. You will receive expert tuition supporting you throughout both your mainstream and SEND placements. The teaching at London Met ensures that you are well equipped to develop your practice to teach the National Curriculum in addition to the skills and knowledge required to develop your specialism in SEND. You will explore the key pedagogies and theories in meeting the needs of individual learners with SEND, and gain a deep understanding of specialist provision in a SEND setting.
