The programme, formerly known as Psychology of Economic Life, examines the psychological dimensions of societal, environmental, and economic behaviour, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Students explore both traditional theories and contemporary research in psychology, behavioural science, and the social sciences, focusing on their application to sustainable practices and societal change. Key areas of study include sustainable consumer behaviour, transformative social change, and behavioural change strategies implemented through design, education, and regulation. The programme also develops students’ ability to present and communicate projects effectively to decision-making bodies. The curriculum encourages students to move beyond conventional economic theories and apply psychological insights to promote more sustainable business models, organisations, and social environments. Throughout the programme, theory is closely integrated with practical application, with assessments based on real-world case studies selected by students themselves. Drawing on a broad range of social science disciplines, the degree offers a wider interdisciplinary perspective than many traditional psychology programmes. Students engage in research across diverse subject areas and graduate with the skills and expertise needed for careers in industry, government, consultancy, or further doctoral study.
