The aim of the course is to provide students with a systematic, comprehensive, and in-depth study of the discipline of international business management. Making use of technology, contemporary research, ethics, and sustainability practices, the course enables students to develop critical evaluation skills and appraise existing theories, hypotheses, and ideas about changes taking place in the world of international business.The course provides opportunities for students to develop a systematic understanding of the core disciplines of international business, such as strategic management, innovation and consultancy, international marketing and technology, organisational behaviour, global people management, finance, sustainable project management decisions etc.The objective of the course is to develop more effective decision-makers who have the knowledge, understanding, confidence and skills to engage in independent, original thought, apply tools of contemporary technology and sustainability, and make business decisions that have relevance in both an academic environment and the workplace. The module focuses on the rapidly changing world around us, it is imperative that students are able to think creatively, problem solve and create advantage for themselves (be entrepreneurial) and for the businesses they may work for (be intrapreneurial). The module encourages students to question what they see and experience around them with an aim to enhance their creativity and to discover new and improved ways of doing things.
This module introduces students to the research process, the mindset of the researcher and in particular to the idea of creativity in research and what it means to be a ?creative researcher?. In this module, students will identify potential topics for their practice-based dissertation and explore these with the aid of creative thinking techniques. In this way their research ideas can be refined and expressed in terms of clear research questions and objectives making use of the relevant literature and theoretical concepts.
The module aims to provide the knowledge and skills needed to critically analyse information contained in companies? reports and accounts, and apply the principles of financial management to make value-maximising decisions in the pursuit of business goals. Course members will learn to critically appraise capital investment projects, and understand the elements of business, financial and exchange risk in the range of financial strategies available to a company. In addition, participants will learn about the various sources of raising capital for the business and appreciate the importance of broader issues in financial strategy and international financial management.
Understanding international marketing concepts and developing international marketing skills are essential for the success of organisations operating in increasingly global, challenging and changing markets. This module develops an understanding of the fundamentals of marketing and provides an overview of the macro-environment of international business and economic development. This lays the basis for an appreciation of strategic international marketing challenges including the use of big data, digital analytics, and global supply chain management. The course provides a strategic overview of international marketing issues, integrating theory and practice across a wide range of international business contexts.
This module aims to give students insight into the roots of competitive advantage, and how international organisations can develop strategies that establish and sustain it, acting ethically and responsibly. Students will appreciate the challenges of managing complexities in diverse, internationally operating businesses. They will develop an understanding of the key role of innovation, and the ways in which organisations can stimulate it and capture value from it.
This module is designed to develop professional consultancy skills by studying organisational structure and culture, situational analysis and diagnosis, communication strategies for consulting and group dynamics. Focusing on the development of business research; client handling and project management skills, completion of this module will enable students to prepare a succinct, clear, evidence based, persuasive consultancy led project plan , aligned to the strategic vision of an organisation and which they are able to effectively pitch to a client.
With its focus on organisational behaviour in an intercultural work context this modules provides students with an understating of global leadership, culture, and a practical focus on methods for managing virtual teams. In a globalised and digital economy everyone comes in contact and works with people from very different cultural backgrounds, whether it is employees, clients, or collaboration partners. Digital modes of working make it possible even for small businesses or individuals to work with partners and in markets across the globe.
The module focuses on the nature, approaches, methods, tools and techniques of research within relevant disciplines from the business environment. In doing so it attempts to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete Master?s level research where the emphasis of the research is in improving aspects of business process and business practice. Thus the module is practically oriented towards the completion of a research proposal that will form the basis of the final practice-based project module.
An independent research project which draws upon the students? skills and knowledge gained thus far enabling application of learning to a scenario resulting in added value to an organisation and creating real world impact.
This module allows students to gain up to 12 months valuable work experience while studying for a Master's degree. Responsibility for securing the work placement lies with you. However, you'll be amply supported by our Employability Team during the search process and during the period of your internship. The internship will allow you to reflect on how principles of your discipline can be applied in the workplace, so enhancing your appreciation of the multi-functional requirements of business in the real world.
