Course Summary

This programme will develop students’ understanding of best practice in SEND and inclusive education provision. Students will gain an understanding of local and international SEND provision, strategy and policy. Additionally, the wider socio-cultural influences on SEND provision, including the influence of cultural and historical context will be explored. Students will be able to evaluate the resources and supports required for children with special education needs and disabilities and plan inclusive education in the classroom. Also, students will be able to design, communicate, implement, and manage inclusive provisions for an educational institution. As part of this programme, the student will critically analyze research and evidence in SEND practice, policy, and implementation, and be able to present and explain policy and best practice in inclusive education in local and international contexts. Finally, students will be encouraged to develop leadership and management skills related to SEND coordination, delivery, partnership and management. .

The SEND Pathway provides a comprehensive analysis of common core principles in the field of inclusive education whilst encouraging students to develop and pursue their own personal and professional research interests. This pathway will enable dedicated teachers to enhance their existing skills in the classroom and support their transition into SEND and SEND leadership positions by integrating inclusive learning techniques into their schools.

Minimum second-class honours degree (UK) or above, or overseas equivalent qualification is required. Currently employed or have work experience in the field of education, or professionals looking for a career change.
