Designed to prepare students for a variety of careers in computer science, the MSc Computer Science masters programme combines both computing and important application domains, enabling you to increase your broad-based knowledge in the field while focusing on one of a range of curricular specialisations.

This Computer Science masters will enable you to:

  • Exhibit proficiency in the design, implementation and testing of software

  • Apply algorithmic and theoretical computer-science principles to solve computing problems from a variety of application areas
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and develop competencies in specialized or emerging computer science fields.

Modules

This course introduces discrete structures that form the foundation of computer science. Learning starts with an understanding of mathematical notation, logic, and sets. Students then study proof techniques, combinatorics (counting), probability, asymptotic notation, recurrences, and an introduction to graph theory. By the end of this course, students will have become familiar with a number of discrete structures that are used throughout computer and data science.

Offers are typically made to applicants holding an upper second-class honours undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in computing science or related engineering discipline. Each applicant will be assessed on an individual basis through their application, a reference and personal statement. NCH welcomes applications from mature students who may have been out of education for a while who have equivalent professional experience.
