Course Summary

Our Ageing and Health MRes is for graduates with a BSc in life or other sciences. It is also suitable for intercalating and qualified MBBS or BDS students. Newcastle University is a global leader in ageing research. We work across the full spectrum of age-related challenges.You can take this as a stand-alone qualification or as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.You'll develop your own bespoke course with our broad range of taught modules. You'll then complete a 24-week research project.Our teaching is research-informed. Course content changes to reflect developments in:the disciplinethe requirements of external bodies and partnersstudent feedbackAgeing and health is a competitive research area. Your studies will be centered around academia. You'll also have an opportunity to access industry experience in some cases.

Modules

The aims of the module are to: Allow students to undertake a general training in research methods and management within a first class research environment involving an appropriate project exploring one or more aspects of biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences; To allow intercalating students to experience medical research first hand; Within these aims, the students will experience a range of cutting-edge research within biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences either in the University, in another higher education institution or in Industry. To enable students to make informed choices about their further career development either medicine, science or business. To enable students to develop a range of professional and key skills, which will enable them to engage in teaching and/or research at an advanced level in higher education or in a senior professional capacity in other fields of employment.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in: a life science or related discipline or an MBBS/BDS degree. This programme accepts both medical and dental students wishing to take a master's degree as an intercalation. You will need to have successfully completed your third or fourth year of study. Practical laboratory work experience is desirable, although not essential. The modules you can study may depend on your academic background.
