Course Summary

Advance your knowledge and skills as a teacher and facilitator of dance.

Investigate aspects of teaching and learning that are important to you, and work towards developing your professional practice in a particular field.

Suitable for graduates of three-year dance degree programmes or related courses at HE level, and those with equivalent professional experience.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Working on placement, students observe, assist and lead on dance activity, looking at different learning and teaching styles, different learner profiles and how to most effectively educate in an inclusive learning environment.

In a very hands-on way you’ll learn how to plan, deliver and assess dance activity effectively, supported by a specialist mentor.

Please note: an enhanced DBS check is required for those working with children and young people whilst on placement. This is processed on your behalf by NSCD.

NSCD programmes of study are validated by the University of Kent.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

You will be taught through a combination of practical classes, workshops and lectures. Seminars and small group tutorials enable you to enhance your understanding of topics covered, while timetabled meetings with your academic tutors deliver additional support.

NSCD postgraduate courses offer more contact hours on average than most comparable Level 7 courses, offering a range of learning including:

Practical classes focusing on your development as individual artists
Workshops developing your professional practice and creative approach
Seminars and tutorials
Lectures, directed study and independent learning
Project-based assessment activity that relates to real-world outcomes

Actual contact hours may vary depending on aspects of delivery. Each credit taken equates to a total study time of around 10 hours.

On top of this, the course consists of independent learning, rehearsal sessions, placement work hours and assessment activity; each credit taken equates to a total study time of around 32 hours.
