Northumbria’s Architect Degree Apprenticeship represents a remarkable opportunity to qualify as a Chartered Architect without leaving full-time paid employment, and with no tuition fees for the student. As the only university in the North of England to offer this course, Northumbria is pioneering this new route into the profession for the next generation of talent.
The Architect Degree Apprenticeship is a part-time four-year course and includes the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications, which is unique to this pathway. Students on the programme will work alongside our full-time MArch students in a collaborative studio-based environment.
During the programme, design projects will be based on real challenges from students working life, allowing them to develop their own authentic professional practice as well as making a valuable impact on their workplace.

Prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) at Part 2 level for the purpose of registration in the UK.
Validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at Part 2 and 3 level for the purpose of eligibility for membership of the RIBA.
Apprentices studying an apprenticeship do not pay any tuition fees, however, as they are in full-time employment they do not have student status and therefore are not entitled to apply for student finance.

Standard Entry: Admission onto a higher or degree apprenticeship can only take place if applicants are currently employed and their employer has a training agreement in place with Northumbria University. Applicants must be employed in a relevant role, with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts directly to their personal and professional work experience. Potential apprentices will need: A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree from a Part 1 accredited Architectural course, or equivalent and a minimum of three months relevant postgraduate work experience.
