Course Summary

The MArch is designed to equip you with the skills you need to succeed in your chosen career. Critical thinking, independent learning, imaginative solutions and the rigorous justification of design decisions are at the heart of our course.

The architectural profession is rapidly developing through the influence of new technologies, emerging markets and political and ecological drivers. You will develop the tools to respond flexibly to authentic situations and possibilities, to deal with contingency and complexity.

Accreditation

Prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) at Part 2 level for the purpose of registration in the UK.
Validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at Part 2 level for the purpose of eligibility for membership of the RIBA.
Accredited by the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) for the purpose of eligibility for registration as a Graduate Architect with the Board of Architects Malaysia. This programme meets the accreditation criteria, attributes, knowledge and skills required in Architectural Study as stated in the Manual of Accreditation for Architecture Programme.

The skills you will acquire are transferable and focus upon: autonomous learning; authentic and analytical methods of inquiry; critical curiosity; social responsibility; and design and communication skills via a comprehensive mix of manual and digital methods.

Modules

Academic skills when studying away from your home country can differ due to cultural and language differences in teaching and assessment practices. This module is designed to support your transition in the use and practice of technical language and subject specific skills around assessments and teaching provision in your chosen subject. The overall aim of this module is to develop your abilities to read and study effectively for academic purposes; to develop your skills in analysing and using source material in seminars and academic writing and to develop your use and application of language and communications skills to a higher level. This module is core for International and EU students only.

Entry requirements

Standard Entry: A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree from a Part 1 accredited Architectural course, or equivalent and a minimum of three months relevant postgraduate work experience. Applicants are required to submit an online portfolio with their application.
