Course Summary

Attain transferable skills in project management and develop specialist skills and knowledge of construction projects.

Construction Project Management with BIM MSc involves planning construction projects, managing supply chains, fostering collaboration among teams, and utilising Building Information Modelling (BIM) to enhance construction efficiency. The strong demand for construction project managers translates to significant opportunities for you to pursue a well-paid, challenging, and international career. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), adding further credibility in the eyes of prospective employers.

The course is specifically tailored for individuals with some experience in construction or the broad architectural, engineering and construction (ACE) industry. If your background is in a different sector, you may wish to consider Project Management MSc.

The course could also lead you to a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil, PhD or Professional Doctorate. If you decide to start up your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.

Whatever you decide to do, you will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a Masters graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.

Modules

Training in research methods provides researchers with an understanding of the ?do?s? and ?don'ts? that are associated with employing particular approaches to the collection and analysis of data. Awareness of research methodologies and methods will enable researchers to practise appropriate techniques and to implement methods accurately. The primary aim of the module is to inform and sensitise you to the choices that are available when planning to undertake a research project. This includes making you aware of a selected range of qualitative and quantitative research methods that can be employed to collect and analyse primary and secondary data arising from studies using these methodological paradigms. Such awareness will enable you to make appropriate choices when executing your research investigation. Of equal importance, the module will also introduce you to a range of academic skills that will support you during your programme of study in addition to the execution of your research project.
