What you'll study

Broaden your clinical practice with specialist knowledge of aesthetic medicine. This is the first course of its kind, designed specifically for practising clinicians to expand their career into aesthetic medicine.

This programme specifically focuses on complementing your existing practical skills with knowledge on key issues in the aesthetic medicine profession, as well as evaluation and self-appraisal, and autonomy in the planning and management of learning. As such, the information covered is designed for you to develop an improved theoretical understanding of procedures, patient management, and key issues through invaluable online seminars, literature and lectures, rather than explicit practical training in aesthetic medicine techniques.

You will also cover:

  • Assessing risk in patients
  • Procedures and policies related to complications of non-surgical treatments
  • Laser and camouflage techniques, cosmeceuticals, and cell-based applications
  • Cutaneous physiology
  • Healing, scarring and ageing

Due to the natural flow between the pathways, many of our students choose to progress onto our MSc in Aesthetic Medicine after completing the PGDip to further their theoretical knowledge and understanding of other areas of aesthetic medicine, or develop their research skills.

Career paths

You will develop comprehensive knowledge of the field of aesthetic medicine. Many of our graduates go on to prestigious positions in aesthetic medicine.

Modules

The module commences with an introduction to hair biology. You will discuss and differentiate a variety of hair types, hair anatomical structure, histology of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland. You will develop a thorough scientific basis of hair biology. You will study hair follicle development and look at identification of vital signalling hair pathways, as well as hair pathology and treatment principles. We will discuss patient assessment and you will undertake identifiable pathologies contributing to hair problems. You will critically evaluate hair transplantation and appraise the methods used.
