The technical skills you gain on this programme will accelerate your surgical training and significantly enhance your career prospects.

You’ll leave this programme with skills needed to apply for the LapPass – the Laparoscopic Passport from the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. You’ll also have the chance to be assessed for the LapPass at our summer school.

You’ll also gain the clinical skills and experience necessary to pursue further academic research at PhD or MD level.


The module covers the techniques and knowledge needed to critically appraise published research, and carry out a piece of original research. Students will develop skills for literature searches, writing abstracts and presenting posters. Students will also learn how to apply statistics for surgeons (descriptive statistics and inferential statistics).
