Career paths

This course is designed to give you an excellent preparation for doctoral study. You’ll attend our interdisciplinary training workshops throughout the year, which will provide specialist linguistics training, as well as guidance on how to write journal articles, research ethics and knowledge transfer in general.

Our MRes programme is linked to our accredited Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Centre, run in partnership with King’s College London (KCL), so we have excellent links if you want to pursue PhD research.

We also provide you with a superb professional network: our MRes cohort form close links during and after their degree. You’re part of our community and even after graduation, you’ll still be invited to our events and networking opportunities.

During this module, students (in coordination with a supervisor) will select a topic for advanced study; collect and analyze data to adequately address the chosen topic; and write a 15,000 word dissertation. Through the dissertation, students will synthesize various aspects of the knowledge they will have obtained through the degree and demonstrate their ability to conduct and present high quality original research.
