Course info

On this course, you’ll explore how global and regional forces interact — from diplomacy and security to environment, energy, and culture. You’ll learn to think critically, challenge assumptions, and cut through disinformation.

Graduates of the Joint MA emerge with the insight and skills to shape debates in diplomacy, international organisations, think tanks, and academia — transforming understanding into global impact.

The academic structure includes Semester 1 at SOAS, where students complete a core module on Central Asia and the Caucasus and three optional modules. In Semester 2, students will relocate to NU, where they will complete another core module, additional modules in Politics and Eurasian studies, and undertake a credit-bearing internship in a diplomatic or NGO setting. Each student will be allocated a supervisor from NU and SOAS to support the completion of a 10,000-word dissertation.
