Course Summary

This Geography PGCE course combines the development of professional skills needed to teach the subject together with knowledge of contemporary issues in geographical education. Our Geography PGCE course aims to prepare you with the practical skills needed to help foster the 'geographical imagination' of young people. This is achieved by teaching this vibrant and exciting subject in an innovative way to support pupil learning. In addition, it explores current debates and research to help understand the purpose of teaching geography and support trainees in their school placements.

Modules

This module aims to introduce and provide an overview of the educational issues and initiatives that are pertinent to all curriculum subjects in the promotion of an inclusive learning and teaching within a diverse society. This work will complement the professional studies and cross curricular themes to be found in the school based professional studies sessions. It seeks to support the development of emergent confident teachers who are aware of the positive contribution they make to the profession and so engender successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens in schools.

Entry requirements

Students are expected to have a good degree in Geography (2:2 or above) or a related subject. GCSEs in English Language and Mathematics at level 4 (grade C if taken before 2017) or above or equivalent.
