Course Summary

COURSE OVERVIEW

If you are aiming for a career in law in England or Wales, this is the course you need.

The Legal Practice Course (LPC) is essential for anyone who wants to qualify as a solicitor in both countries, and will give you the practical skills and confidence you need for a career in this exciting and challenging profession.

Taught entirely by experienced solicitors and barristers, the course is designed for law graduates and those who hold a Graduate Diploma in Law. It bridges the gap between academic study and practical training.

LEGAL PRACTICE COURSE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The LPC completes the academic requirements to work as a solicitor, meaning you can then move into training with a law firm.

We have an established work placement programme, enabling students to secure training contracts and paralegal positions.

Our career support services include:

  • Employability workshops, employers’ talks, bespoke events and careers fairs
  • Individual advice and guidance from professionally qualified Careers Advisers
  • Help with finding jobs, internships, work placements and volunteering opportunities
  • Access to information resources on a wide range of career management topics
  • Funding to support student internship opportunities and Student Society/Club events.

We also provide help and advice for Swansea University Alumni up to two years after you graduate.

Modules

Students are trained to act as a Criminal Practitioner from the moment they are instructed by a client in custody to the point at which s/he is tried in the Magistrates Court. Students also consider the advantages and disadvantages of summary trial and trial on indictment. The overriding objective of the Civil Litigation element of the Litigation module is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to work effectively in a civil litigation, dispute management or personal injury department.
