Sports Management Sports Leadership
The course has been developed to support senior and aspiring leaders within sporting organisations, whilst also being highly relevant to athletes wanting to diversify their skill set (off the pitch), with skills and approaches that can be implemented in their organisation or entrepreneurial venture.
The programme is designed for individuals who are:
This module offers a unique exploration of entrepreneurial action within the dynamic and ever-evolving world of sports and associated ventures. Designed for professionals working in sports organizations and those from a sporting (or non-sporting) background looking to move into new directions, the module challenges assumptions of the stereotypical entrepreneur and examines the intersection of entrepreneurship, sport, culture, and the economy. The fundamentals of initiating entrepreneurial ventures (sporting or non-sporting), including business planning and development strategies will be discussed within the sports industry and beyond.
Leadership continues to be discussed and sought after, even though we now live in supposedly more democratic times with flatter organisations and empowered employees. It also remains a perennial issue in organisation studies, with significant questions concerning how best to understand the theory and development of leadership. Students will be exposed to a range of classical and contemporary approaches to the study of leadership and will examine the practical implications of these for strategic leadership and the management of change.
This module offers professionals working in sporting organisations, including current and retired athletes, an in-depth understanding of contemporary business operations both within and beyond the sports industry. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical tools, students will explore critical topics such as sustainable operations, international standards, and asset management, with an emphasis on enhancing organisational efficiency, sustainability, and overall performance.
