Course Summary

The PGCE programme of study in partnership with Plymouth University course provides you with an opportunity to learn skills, knowledge and professional values necessary for a teaching career within the Further Education (post 16) and Skills Sector.

Why choose this course?

This area of teacher training covers the teaching of academic and vocational subjects. The Further Education (post 16) and Skills Sector includes further education colleges, adult and community education, work-based training providers, offender learning and public sector organisations.

Methods of Study

Each module has a taught element. This can include lectures, interactive group activities, guest speakers, seminars and mediated VLE interactions. In addition, students are expected to engage in further independent study. This is supported by individual tutorials given by a designated personal tutor.

Development of practice is expected through systematic reflection on feedback received from the mentor and tutor following observations of teaching.

You will be assessed by coursework attached to each module, plus observations and evidence of teaching practice from your placement.

Employability

The course gives you a nationally recognised teaching qualification for teacher/training in the Further Education and Skills Sector.

Successful completion of the PGCE can enable you to progress onto the Masters in Education at Plymouth University.
