This one-year MRes acts as an effective foundation year for a research career in drug development and a comprehensive programme in research methodology. As well as deepening your knowledge of the latest techniques in drug development, you will gain practical experience by undertaking a significant research project, working with UCL's expert scientists. For graduates or professionals in biomedical science, this campus-based MRes provides an in-depth understanding of the very latest drug development methodologies, along with practical experience in laboratory, clinical or epidemiological research. As a student on this course, you will gain an in-depth understanding of how to carry out clinical trial design, learn to develop and implement a successful regulatory approval of medicinal products, and explore how to model different diseases. Using real life case studies, you will develop expertise in what makes a good drug. You will also become skilled in evaluating scientific literature and gain an appreciation of ethical and governance requirements of research, including 'good clinical practice' principles. You will also gain practical experience by undertaking a three-month research project, working with UCL's expert scientists. The UCL Faculty of Medical Sciences is one of the most highly rated medical research centres in the UK. Through close links with clinical colleagues in the UCLH group of hospitals, you will have access to cutting-edge medical expertise and world-leading clinical research.
