Study the global management of natural resources at UCL. The natural resource industries are critical to the continued development of technology and society. However, they face several challenges, including financial, policy and governmental constraints, technological limitations, very high levels of energy consumption and the availability of resources into the future. On this specialist MSc course, you'll build a broad understanding of natural resources: where these resources come from, how to best extract and use them, what the environmental and social consequences of these operations are, and how we incorporate good governance and sustainability practice into these efforts. What's more, you'll hone in on the socioeconomic responsibilities, learn to operate within international constraints, and develop insight into the technical complexity of the challenges faced. These are key skills that will equip you to lead the charge towards a more sustainable future for these industries and society. This course is ideal for you if you have a background in science and engineering, business, finance, management, human resources and/or similar/allied fields. It is designed for those who want to develop a more holistic understanding of the natural resources sector, and you have a demonstrable interest in the course outcomes. This course has been structured to suit applicants who wish to develop a strong technical understanding within the natural resources sector, but don't necessarily want to be scientists or engineers. Students can undertake a shorter research report that is reflective of industry practice in management, analytics and consultancy. Applicants wishing to develop a strong technical outcome should consider the MSc in Global Management of Natural Resources course.
All students undertake a dissertation of 6 000 words based on an individual research project, field trip and executive summary. There will also be an oral viva, to be conducted in Australia at the end of the research project.
