This Master’s will provide you with the technical, analysis and design skills to work in any sector of the mechanical engineering industry. You’ll also gain advanced understanding of a carefully curated set of in-demand specialisms such as new and renewable energy systems, control and robotics. This a one-year, full-time course is designed to equip you with the advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to thrive in modern engineering industries. Delivered by leading academics and informed by cutting-edge research, the course covers core areas such as power transmission, vibrations and acoustics, thermofluids, materials science, and advanced computer applications in engineering. You will develop strong analytical and project management capabilities, with a focus on sustainability, safety, and real-world impact. The MSc course includes interdisciplinary group work, and a substantial individual research project, allowing you to apply your learning in both academic and industrial contexts. Located in central London, UCL offers direct access to a range of industry networks and partnerships. The department also collaborates with a wide range of industrial organisations that may offer individual MSc projects to our students. Examples from previous years include Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, BMT and Siemens Energy. The programme is for students with a relevant first degree, such as in engineering, physics or applied mathematics. It will prepare you for further study, for a career as a Chartered Professional Engineer, and for senior roles in management, advanced engineering, manufacturing and power engineering.
