Course Summary

The MSc in Migration, Politics and Society provides an in-depth exploration of issues relating to contemporary international migration by placing them into contexts of past injustices and present (geo)political realities. Migration is not just a ‘problem’/’solution’ for nation-states, but impacts all levels of society, from regions and cities to ‘local’ communities. This interdisciplinary degree will give you an appreciation of the different facets of contemporary international population migration and its political implications.About this degreeThe programme is housed in UCL’s Department of Geography – home to several leading international scholars in migration. It also draws on the expertise of academics across UCL, which has an international reputation in research on migration. It has two established research units: the Migration Research Unit and the Centre for Research on Economic Analysis of Migration. You will benefit from access to these research units and from a range of associated seminars and reading groups. UCL's migration research covers the globe with projects on migration from Mexico to China and from Senegal to Russia. The programme is also embedded in migration networks here in London, one of the world's most diverse cities.Migration, Politics and Society is a friendly and supportive programme with excellent access to academics. All staff are available weekly for consultation in Academic Support and Feedback Hours. You will have the opportunity to work with academics on current research and in UCL campaigns and networks such as Refuge in A Moving World, which can connect you to a range of professional networks.

Normally a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Professional experience in relevant fields will be considered alongside academic qualifications.
