Architectural Engineering Environmental Studies Ergonomics Environmental Engineering
Our course brings together architectural design and engineering so you can create spaces that are practical and sustainable as well as beautiful. You'll learn how to design buildings with low-carbon footprints and a focus on comfortable and healthy living. There is a need for trained professionals who know how to reduce the environmental impact of construction. We'll help you develop your design and technical skills throughout the course to meet this need. As part of this degree, you can also take an optional five-day intensive course in Passivhaus design. This gives you the opportunity and training to become a qualified Passivhaus designer or consultant. Your knowledge will prepare you for a career in industry, research or academia where you can make a valuable contribution to sustainable development. You’ll graduate equipped to: reappraise the design process and apply engineering principles to building design; understand how people use buildings to inform your design solutions; research and use new concepts and technologies to develop sustainable building strategies.

We have a range of facilities to support your studies including environmental monitoring facilities and an artificial sky with light meters. You’ll also have access to specialist computer and software facilities for environmental modelling. Our laboratories contain equipment that exceed industry standards

We work with industry partners to make sure that your studies reflect good practice in environmental design. Our graduates have gone on to work in some of the top UK and international engineering and design companies, including BuroHappold, ARUP and SWECO.

You should have a bachelor’s honours degree or international equivalent, typically a 2:1 or above. To apply for this programme you should have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate subject such as architectural engineering, architecture with strong technical content, civil engineering or building services engineering, or another subject which included a significant modelling component (e.g. physics or engineering).
