The software is the same as the one that is widely used in industry and will give you experience which will prepare you for your professional career

Who is this course for?

This is a conversion programme. It is designed for university graduates who have some quantitative backgrounds and want to work in the finance industries (such as banks, insurance companies, pension funds, stock broking firms, stock exchanges, finance/treasury departments of many local and multinational organisations or government departments) but have limited knowledge of finance, accounting or economics to do so.

Employability

Dubai is a financial hub with strong demand for financial management graduates who will have both the knowledge and skills for working in banks, insurance companies, stock broking firms and other industries in the finance sector in Dubai. Graduates from the programme will also gain theoretically underpinned knowledge and skills on the MSc Financial Management programme that can be used to work in the treasury departments of many companies in Dubai as well as in multinational companies that operate globally, government departments and other organisations

Modules

This module introduces fundamental analysis that is an economic framework for business analysis and business valuation based on accounting information. The main focus is on (i) understanding the concepts and usage of financial information; (ii) critical analysis of financial information with referring to the strategic position of an enterprise, profitability drivers and the capital structure; (iii) forecasts for financial performance and position; (vi) application of valuation techniques for assets and securities. Students are encouraged to analyse the quality of accounting information and to explore empirical studies concerned with the value relevance of accounting information by using real data from financial reports and electronic databases like Datastream, Compustat and CRSP among others. Via these practices, students are expected to be able to evaluate the functionality of corporate financial management of an enterprise and maintain a balanced capital structure for supporting the enterprises operation. This module equips students with key business analysis and valuation techniques commonly applied in an enterprise and consulting services. Throughout, this course also spends a reasonable amount of time on the role of theories and industry practices introduces, in promoting ethical and sustainable business practices.

Entry requirements

In order to be considered, applicants will have or should be expecting to achieve an Honours degree (2:1 or higher) or postgraduate diploma from a UK university (or overseas equivalent) in a highly quantitative subject. Applicants must have achieved a mark equivalent to a 2:2 at undergraduate level in Mathematics or Mathematics related modules. If necessary we will assess the academic transcript for performance in Mathematics and Mathematics related modules. A minimum of GCE A-Level grade D (or overseas equivalent) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics or Statistics may also be considered to meet the quantitative requirement.
