Course info

Course overview On this course you'll develop your work on historically-informed performances of western art music. This flexible postgraduate course lets you choose either an MA by Research or PhD in Music Performance Practice. Both courses offer you the chance to produce a research thesis, an assessed performance and both a written note and critical commentary on the performance. Whichever course you choose, you'll be supported by expert supervisors and access our specialist facilities. Research and performance opportunities Get involved with a range of ensembles, including the Collective for Early Music Performance and Research at Birmingham (CEMPR), the Centre for Electronic Music and performance opportunities through University Music. This Collective is unique in Europe and is a place where the highest levels of performance and academic research in early music are brought together. The Centre for Electronic Music brings together research staff and students at the University of Birmingham studying and creating electronic music. Supervisors in the Department are also experienced in supervising research on more recent repertories, as well as other areas of musical performance practice research including electronic music and performance.
