Course Summary

Overview

A full-time Master's degree designed to produce fully rounded managers with an emphasis on finance. You’ll focus on how a business creates and measures value, and how to approach accounting and finance from a strategic perspective.

The programme combines finance and accounting with a detailed examination of other disciplines required for the management of organisations. This also allows you to consider financial decision-making from multiple perspectives. You will be able to apply your knowledge and skills gained from these disciplines in your final dissertation.

Key elements include:

  • business economics
  • operations management
  • strategic accounting and financial management
  • international business
  • marketing planning and strategy.

As you will study and gain skills in all areas of business, you’ll have a broad range of career paths open to you on graduation. You will be able to explore further to study for a professional accountancy qualification after completing this programme.

Professional accreditation

We are proud to be in an elite group of business schools to hold the triple accreditations of Equis, AMBA and AACSB, often referred to as the "Triple Crown".

Learning and assessment

The programme is summatively assessed by a mixture of written examinations, assessed coursework, case studies, group projects and multimedia presentations.

Assessment is integrated with learning and teaching to support and demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes for individual modules and the programme as a whole. Emphasis is placed on the feedback function of formative assessment as part of the learning, teaching and assessment strategy as a whole.

Career prospects

Our graduates are highly sought after for careers in management, consultancy or advanced management studies.

The sectors and jobs that our MSc students are employed in after graduation vary depending on their previous experience and pathway taken. In terms of career progression, it is useful to consider where alumni are three years after graduation. Looking at the data derived from the School’s ranking in the Financial Times Master’s in Management Rankings, on average 25% of them are in senior management roles and 20% in junior management positions three years after graduation.

Modules

This module aims to provide students with a sound understanding of key economic concepts relevant to household and firm level decision making, as well as government policy making. It aims to provide an overview of core economic concepts of relevance to the overall economy (macroeconomy), which impact on individuals, firms and other economic actors. A range of applications and illustrations aim to provide students with a feel for key factors influencing 'real world' decision making, as well as an appreciation of economic factors which have a profound impact on the overall macroeconomy.
