Course Summary

Intro

Our Finance and Accounting MSc will help you develop an in-depth knowledge of financial theory and practice, research methods, financial markets, financial accounting and management accounting.

During times of crisis, accountancy is seen as a stable profession. With workloads of accountants already increased through assisting businesses with the transitions from political changes like BREXIT, the recent pandemic has increased the need for skills in cost-cutting, forecasting, tax and insolvency.

This course has been designed to help you develop the skills necessary to advise on financial accounting standards, solve complex business problems and address the latest issues in financial theory and practice.

Full-time students also have the option to add work experience to their masters through a year’s paid placement in industry.

This course is part of our Finance MSc programme. All students complete the same core finance modules, then from the end of the first semester you will be able to specialise in one of five areas.

Career prospects

The accounting and financial services sectors require a high level of understanding of theory and practice from their professionals. A Finance and Accounting MSc from the University of Brighton will help you to specialise and meet the growing demand for finance professionals with strong research skills, or continue study for a PhD.

The course prepares you for a range of senior accounting and financial roles in financial institutions, accountancy firms, consultancies and finance departments in private and public sectors.

The course is also ideal preparation for continuing your studies at MPhil or PhD level, or working as a professional researcher in finance.

Previous graduates have gone into the following roles: Fund Administrator, Epworth Investment Management; Assistant Vice President Corporate Lending, ING Bank Turkey; Pricing Analyst, General Electric Corporation; Junior Dealer, Yapi Kredi; Supply Planner, Proctor & Gamble

Modules

The dissertation will be 10,000?15,000 words long. It will address an accounting problem that requires you to undertake research leading to practicable recommendations based on sound analysis and judgement.
