MRes - Master of Research
Clifton Campus
Part Time
Jan 2027
4 Year
Neuroscience seeks to understand the most complex structure in the known universe - the brain. This unique postgraduate programme is a one-year research project, allowing you to gain in-depth knowledge of your chosen research topic, develop independent research skills and your ability to work as part of a team. You will select a project drawn from a pool of world-leading experts with interests ranging from the molecular biology of synapses to behavioural studies of cognition. The programme provides a key transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study, providing an excellent foundation if you are considering applying for a PhD in neuroscience or other life science disciplines. You will spend an academic year embedded in your selected research group, carrying out a research project. Typically this will involve working with a team of academic staff and students. There is no formal taught component, but you will have the option to attend regular events designed to enhance your personal and professional development. At the end of your study you will write up your research work as an MScR thesis (maximum 30,000 words). The thesis will be assessed by an external examiner and you will also have a viva (oral examination).
