Course info

Led by acclaimed author Ophelia Field, Buckingham’s Biography Programme was founded thirty years ago by Prof. Jane Ridley and today remains the only Programme in the UK focused solely on how to research and write this genre.Students receive 1:1 supervision from a wide range of eminent scholars, whose expertise spans from the sixteenth to twenty-first centuries, in preparation for producing Dissertations on their chosen biographical subjects, whether that be an ancestor, a former Prime Minister or a wrongfully neglected novelist. Many of our graduates go on to successfully publish academic or commercial biographical work. For the MA by Research, study can be on either a full-time (one year) or a part-time (two year) basis, with the latter generally recommended so that students can devote the second year entirely to their Dissertation. The standard entry point is the Autumn Term.
