Want to become a social worker but dont have a degree in social work? Discover our fast-track social work programme which leads to a postgraduate qualification. This course is delivered in partnership with local authorities in the East Midlands. Some sessions are online and some are in-person in the East Midlands.
You'll learn and undertake placements required by Social Work England to qualify in 14 months. Teaching is delivered full-time by experienced academics through a blended learning approach.
It is likely you'll have to study in the evenings and at weekends to meet the requirements to qualify within the 14 months of the programme. There are set holiday periods throughout the course.
We're delivering the Department for Education commissioned step up to social work programme for the East Midlands Local Authorities regional partnerships.
Working in partnership with the East Midlands Local Authorities, our programme prepares social workers with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to succeed in the social work profession.
Some learning sessions are delivered online, but others are delivered in person within the East Midlands – not in Lancashire.
The programme also includes over 180 days within placements, which will be in your supporting local authority. You will be expected to travel to placements and after completing the programme, most graduates work within their supporting local authority. The first placement will be for 80 days and the second is 100 days long.
After you've completed the course, you'll be able to apply to register with Social Work England as a qualified social worker. This means you will be able to begin a career as a Social Worker. Find out more about how to become a social worker.
This module supports you to develop knowledge and skills for the professional social work role including consideration of; professional standards and requirements, professional identity, skills for reflection and self-care, communication, assessment, intervention, supervision, inter-professional working, and practice/organisational/social contexts.
This module offers you the opportunity to complete a practice placement of the length required by the social work regulator for a first placement. The placement practice opportunity will enable you to meet and work with people with lived experience of social work practice, and experience of a social work practice context.
During this module you'll be introduced to the legal context for social work practice in England. The module will familiarise you with relevant legislation and policy relating to the promotion of wellbeing, rights and safeguarding of vulnerable people across a range of service user and carer groups. It will provide opportunities to think through the ways in which this key legislation and official guidance impacts upon situations encountered in practice.
This module will provide you with the opportunity to consolidate practice learning at the level required for professional registration building on your knowledge, skills and values from their first placement and learning from all other modules. You'll continue your professional development in more complex and unpredictable situations, demonstrating that you have a critical awareness of ethical standards, relevant legislation, research and the value base of social work.
The module aims to introduce you to a range of theoretical approaches for understanding human life course development. It will support you to recognise and critically appraise the complexity and diversity of human experience. Social workers must engage with people at different stages of their life, so this module will prepare you to undertake this work in practice.
This module will help you navigate complex aspects of social work by deepening your knowledge and skills. Understand conflicting elements such as legislation, policy, ethics, and research. Enhance your ability to make informed decisions within the professional and political contexts of social work practice.
