Course Summary

You will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by the teaching profession, as you learn the fundamentals of the national curriculum to fully prepare you for working in primary schools. In addition, you will study early years specifically to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of pedagogy and practice for teaching younger pupils (3-7 years) and how this relates to the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and the national curriculum. As part of the PGCE course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of inclusive practice to meet the needs of all learners. During a two-week enhanced placement in a special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) setting you will be able apply your understanding of key pedagogies and theories and deepen your knowledge of specialist provision by working with expert colleagues. This is achieved through a balance of study related to the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by the teaching profession, the fundamentals of the national curriculum and a dedicated focus on understanding the role of the Early Years/Key Stage 1 teacher.

Modules

This module aims to develop your subject knowledge, enthusiasm for and enjoyment of English, Mathematics and Science. You will begin to develop a critical understanding of the distinctive features of each subject area and the research concerning children?s learning in that subject. By linking your learning to your school experience, each component aims to promote the necessary competences and understanding your need to plan, teach and assess the core curriculum effectively. the core curriculum module aims to enable you to begin to develop your own personal educational philosophies with regards to pedagogy, so that you can apply these in the classroom and articulate them to other professionals

Honours degree 2:2 or above. We do accept applicants with a lower classification but an otherwise strong application. GCSE C/4 or above in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
