  • authoritatively use analytical methodologies to understand management and financing issues in the international oil and gas industry
  • critically review the information and effectively communicate complex ideas related to management
  • collaborate effectively with others to solve problems
  • demonstrate leadership and advisory capabilities.

You will gain transferable and employability skills to

  • locate, extract, analyse, and refer to data from a range of sources, including appropriate acknowledgements and referencing of sources
  • effectively communicate by presenting information clearly and concisely in writing and orally, including communicating in groups
  • make use of communication and information technology (including commonly used and up-to-date versions of applications software)

You will be given a schedule of modules at induction that lists the core, compulsory, and elective modules. You will have the support of academic advisers for module selection.

Modules

The main aim of this course is to introduce students to current methods of financial and project appraisal techniques that relate to natural resources and energy organisations. This is a practical course in which evaluation techniques and concepts are taught, such as discounted cash flow, internal rate of return and payback period, which are applied to realistic scenarios, leading to the preparation of spreadsheets, their analysis and interpretation of results. The student should be able to recommend the appropriate appraisal techniques to a given business investment along with an appreciation of social and other non-financial features. Taxation and sources of finance are also introduced in this module, but any in-depth analyses of them can only be provided in other courses.
