Course Summary

Explore conceptual and regulatory accounting frameworks involved in the preparation and interpretation of financial statements, compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards. You will learn about techniques used by financial managers when evaluating financial decisions and about the business issues they face. You will explore accounting information and specialised techniques in costing, planning, controlling, decision-making, and performance measurement.

You'll study the administration of the tax system, tax payer’s compliance obligations, computation of tax liabilities, and tax planning techniques. You will learn how to advise people and businesses on the impact of key tax considerations. The course focuses on the technical and theoretical study of fundamental professional accounting subjects. You will also carry out a professional project in the context of international accounting practice. We also organise a number of career support workshops and events with the ACCA, including a visit to their Scottish HQ in Glasgow. Successful completion of this degree enables you to claim exemption from all ACCA Applied Knowledge and Skills (previously referred to as F1 to F9) papers.

Professional accreditation

Accreditation from the Association of International Accountants (AIA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and ACCA

This degree is accredited by the ACCA. Upon successful completion, graduates will be exempt from all of the ACCA’s Knowledge/Skills papers.

Careers:

A majority of our graduates progress to successful careers as professionally-qualified accountants. Graduates also move into the private sector with many working as Finance Directors and similar roles. Successful completion of this degree enables you to claim exemption from all ACCA Applied Knowledge and Skills papers. It means that on completion, you’ll be partly professionally qualified with ACCA and can work in the accountancy profession where you may choose to complete the ACCA professional qualification. Alternatively, ACCA professional exams can be completed full time with education providers operating in many different countries across the world.

Modules

This module explores the nature of audit and assurance engagements in the context of professional regulation and ethical codes of practice in order to critically assess the impact on professions. The module is based on international professional accountancy education requirements, international professional pronouncements and relevant research literature. In addition, this module meets the current accreditation requirements of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Paper F8 'Audit and Assurance'.
