This course offers a research-led university and are committed to making a substantial impact on the global challenges facing society. Our postgraduate researchers have opportunities to work at the heart of active research teams, challenging boundaries and making real advances. Staff research interests in Education and Lifelong Learning include:
• International Education and Social Change (IESC): adult literacy and international development; community learning; decolonisation; internationalisation and higher education policy; lifelong and informal learning; minority groups and mobility; and widening participation, inclusion and equity of access to HE
• Lifelong Learning Cultures (LLC): digital technology, social media and digital resilience; and gender and sexuality
• Pedagogy, Curriculum and Professional Learning (PCPL): childhood/youth cultures and identities; English, curriculum and pedagogy; futures education; Mathematics education; public pedagogies, popular culture; Sport, health, physical education and wellbeing; Teacher Education; TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and speculative and digital research methodologies Working closely with an academic supervisor gives you the support to carry out your own independent research. To identify a potential supervisor who shares your research interests, we suggest you read about our doctoral supervisors and that you contact them one at a time, to express your interest and discuss your research proposal. The School offers three pathways to gain a doctoral degree - the PhD (full-time and part-time) and two professional doctorates: the Doctor of Education (part-time) and the Doctorate in Educational Psychology (full-time).
