Course Summary

The programme is designed to meet the demand within the construction management industry with advanced skills. The programme provides the opportunity for you to develop deep knowledge and understanding in different areas of construction management. The aim is to develop training specialists on how to manage multidisciplinary organisations in the construction industry from different perspectives such as client, contractor, designer, and supplier.

The programme aims to develop management skills and a critically reflective practice on construction. Applying theory into practice in the field of construction industry is the main idea behind the course. It will enable you to maximise your management skills and capability to work in an international environment. To maximise your demonstration, different range of skills and knowledge in the area of construction and engineering such as Project Management, Information Communication Technology, Construction Law, Supply Chain Management, Procurement.

This course is also available as a two-year masters with an industrial placement year. The embedded industrial placement offers a unique opportunity to apply the skills learnt on real engineering projects.

How You'll Learn

You will become proficient in communicating ideas to a technical and non-technical audience. The programme will help you to think laterally, to solve problems in a structured logical way.

The proposed extension of coursework components to most modules will strengthen the learning strategy by providing opportunities for you to enhance your critical thinking skills to evaluate different management and engineering solutions and adjust your plans in a changing environment. The aim is to enable you to deal with the evolving and open-ended nature of managing projects in the real world. The coursework assignments will require you to use your creativity, management and engineering judgement, applied management skills acquired during your current course plus skills in team working and communication.

Modules

The subject of the module is the micro and macroeconomics of the construction sector, including cost management and forecasting for the development of construction projects from the client/owner, design team, and contractor's perspective. The focus is from the concept and the early design stage, through the design and construction process, and into occupancy.
