Course Summary

Our Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies offers supervision for MPhil Creative Writing in all fields of staff research interest within this area. Creative writing is an area of growth for us, and all genres are catered for, with published novelists, poets, and playwrights on our teaching staff and great programme of visiting writers through the Essex Book Festival to stimulate your imagination.

Several our graduates have gone on to undertake successful careers as writers. Other past students are now established as scholars, university lecturers, teachers, publishers, publishers’ editors, journalists, arts administrators, theatre artistic directors, drama advisers, and translators

We also offer an MAD and a PhD in this subject.

Assessment

The MPhil is a structured two-year programme of advanced study and research.

Your future

Entry requirements

A 2:2 degree in one of the following subjects: Art History, Creative Writing, History, Journalism, Literature, Media Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Theatre/Drama Studies. IELTS 7.0 (6.5 in writing, with a minimum of 5.5 remaining components), TOEFL IBT 100 overall with minimum component scores: listening 17, reading 18, writing 26, and speaking 20.
