OverviewThis two year programme combines language learning with specialist modules in international relations of the Middle East and guided research on a topic of your choiceYou will receive intensive tuition in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and an Arabic dialect in Exeter and spend a period abroad studying in an Arabic-speaking countryYou will investigate and contextualise major events and current affairs with a particular focus on international relations in the Middle East through a variety of specialist modulesThe Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS) is one of the foremost academic departments in Middle East, Islamic Studies and Arabic. Modules

This is a beginner Arabic language module which introduces students to Arabic morphology and syntax and develops the core skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar. The module offers students 10 hours of contact time per week, during which students learn to read, write and communicate in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Assessment takes the form of written assignments, listening exercises, oral presentations and end of term exams (oral, listening and speaking). No prior Arabic is required.

Entry requirements

We will consider applicants with a 2:2 Honours degree with 53% or above in a social sciences or humanities discipline. While we normally only consider applicants who meet this criteria, if you are coming from a different academic background which is equivalent to degree level, or have relevant work experience, we would welcome your application.
