The Masters in Sociology will develop a critical understanding of sociology, through enhanced knowledge of empirical studies and sophistication in the use of theoretical skills.The programme will develop your knowledge of the different theoretical and analytical approaches in sociology, together with knowledge of empirical studies in social research, while enabling you to focus in depth upon particular areas of sociology. You will also be given some research methods training. Sociology at Glasgow is ranked 1st in the UK by Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 and 4th in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2024.By the end of the programme, you will have developed a variety of skills. These include critical thinking, appreciation of the impact of institutions, including how people mediate them, and the ability to conduct research and utilise data. These open the door to a variety of careers including social welfare-related careers, advertising, marketing, public relations, journalism, human resource management. You will be supported by employability tutors and benefit from online interactive training to support your career goals and build an evidenced-based online portfolio of your achievements.
