Modules

This module provides an introduction to pathophysiology. It will develop your knowledge of the mechanisms of disease and how these mechanisms progress to result in clinically overt disease for the body?s key organ systems. The module will also develop your understanding of the mechanisms underlying important clinical situations, such as sepsis and ageing. Studying disease in this way will provide you with an understanding of pathophysiology and its importance in the clinical context; the emphasis will be on integrating basic science with clinical practice. This module is aimed at both health and social care professionals working in generalist roles who need a broad base of knowledge as well as those with more specialist roles who need to appreciate the impact of other diseases and therapies on their specialist area of practice. The ultimate aim of this module is that health and social care professionals are enabled to make more informed decisions when assessing and managing patients in order to improve patient outcomes.
