The MSc in Data Science equips graduates to embark on highly skilled careers in data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning. This specialist Master's in Data Science provides a theoretical knowledge of data science alongside the practical skills that will help you prosper in the jobs market. You'll be exposed to a broad range of topics such as data science, statistics, specialist programming, machine learning and data visualisation. For the MSc project, you may have the opportunity to undertake a collaborative project within industry. This course is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT: Initial Partial CITP and Partial CEng (Further Learning). An accredited degree entitles you to professional membership of BCS.

Graduates from this Computer Science course are equipped for employment in industry, commerce or research with a proficiency in the key theoretical and practical areas of data science, including their application to modern artificial intelligence systems.

Modules

This course aims to provide analytical skills to study big data and to provide a solid foundation for developing solutions and applications that need to manipulate big data. Students will be introduced to a range of tools and techniques to manipulate and manage big data sets which will be used to develop a range of big data applications. Specific aims are: To provide an overview of statistical and machine learning techniques often used in big data processing. To develop a fundamental toolbox of techniques and skills from which to construct solutions to gain insight from large data sets. To develop the ability to manipulate abstracted data into meaningful information.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have: A good degree (equivalent to UK 2:2 or higher) in a computing-related subject or in a suitable numerate subject (e.g. mathematics, physics, engineering, information systems or multimedia) that includes software development experience. Or, substantial commercial/industrial experience including software development using modern programming languages and design.
