Course Summary

Our Microfluidics and Microengineering research is concerned with the development of novel microengineered devices, biodetection systems and turnkey microfluidics-enabled systems. Our unit has a dedicated clean room and laboratory facilities with some state-of-the-art equipment. Our research is supported by government agencies and industry. Each student will be assigned a Principal and a second supervisor who are experts in the research topic. The research will be conducted in our labs which are well-equipped for research in the topics of our expertise. The research is conducted over a 12-month period Full-Time or 24 months Part-time. Research students submit for their registration assessment which is conducted in the form of a formal viva 3 months and 6 months respectively after their enrolment. For the final assessment, students are expected to submit their thesis and to be examined also in the form of a viva by an external and an internal examiner.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a First class Honours BEng degree in a relevant Engineering discipline including Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, etc. Strong applicants with a 2.1 qualification may also be considered. Personal attributes including a drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential.
