About the course

This programme is available to UK/EU students only.

This programme offers Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for the 3-11 age phases in primary schools with a choice of school placements in Foundation/Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 1/Key Stage 2.

The programme comprises of taught sessions at the University and school-based training.

Modules

In conjunction with other programme components, this module aims to prepare trainees to be Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) in primary schools. The Primary School Based Training 1 will comply with the current requirements and focus on coverage of the current Standards for qualified teacher status. There will be extended opportunities to observe learning and teaching and to carry out teaching practice. Each trainee will receive training, support and assessment from a school mentor during his/her placement and from a visiting University tutor while on placement. Reflective practice is an essential element for ensuring on-going progress in meeting the Standards

Entry requirements

Applicants need to have honours degree (2.2 or higher), awarded by a UK university or an overseas award recognised as equivalent by NARIC. Maths, English Language and Science GCSE Grade 4 or above (Grade C or above under the old grading structure). Prior experience in a school is not required. Suitability to train to teach is assessed at interview.
