This part-time Postgraduate Certificate prepares you for a career as an educator in professional practice and has been developed in response to demand from local NHS trust and private healthcare providers.

Using the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for learning and assessment, youll gain the skills and knowledge to teach, mentor and assess other like-minded professionals from a range of healthcare backgrounds.

Plus, our programme will help develop your own leadership skills – and can be the first step towards a PGDip or MSc in Health Studies if you wish to continue studying.

About this course

Our programme offers a blended approach towards study, with your time spent either learning online or in our award-winning health facilities on campus.

Learning methods include workshops, discussions, group work and lead lectures – enabling you to play an active part in your learning. Plus, youll be further supported by our virtual learning environment.

Our core modules will give you a solid foundation in all aspects of the role including practice establishing effective working relationships evidence-based practice leadership creating an environment for learning facilitation of learning assessment and accountability and evaluation of learning.

Youll also have the opportunity to explore an educational issue within your own sphere of practice as part of a work-based module.

Students on this course will usually have prior experience as a mentor or assessor, as well as evidence of academic study within the past five years. However, all applications will be considered on individual merit.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree or international equivalent in nursing, midwifery or another relevant discipline, plus appropriate experience in a professional environment.
