The MSc Disaster Medicine course expands the scope of your skills, enabling you to work as part of a disaster response team – delivering, planning and co-ordinating disaster and conflict healthcare. Delivering healthcare to communities affected by disasters, be they natural or man-made, is an aspect of healthcare that is both demanding and immensely rewarding. This course will see you acquire the specific skills and expertise required to adapt and respond to the needs of communities when they are at their most vulnerable. Designed by medical professionals with experience in disaster and conflict medicine, the course also provides you with the skills required to plan, manage and deliver a medical programme under challenging conditions, whilst also considering ethical, legal and logistical issues. Gain the necessary skills to deal with every stage of healthcare delivery in a disaster, from advance planning and immediate response to healthcare in the medium-to-long-term. You’ll study the framework of disaster management with a focus on initial response and the important role of communication. Our blended learning delivery, with online materials and on-campus sessions, allows you to study either full-time or part-time whilst continuing to work.Future Careers:The skills and knowledge gained on this course can be usefully applied on short-term deployments to a disaster zone, or in employment with international relief agencies and organisations.Intercalating medical students may use this qualification as the foundation for further study and specialist practice following qualification.
