Course Summary

We need to respond to more threats from illegal or unwanted activities as we increase our use of communication technology and information-based applications. Delivered in Burnley, our MSc in IT Security will develop your computing skills in the theory and practice of computer security.Youll gain an in-depth understanding of the problems and techniques of IT security development and improve your employability prospects.Youll be able to choose additional modules to complement your interests and career goals, such as forensics or software development.And youll have the opportunity to work on a substantial project of your choice in the field of computer security.Youll plan, carry out and evaluate a substantial IT Security related project where youll practice and develop your self-management, communication, critical evaluation, and technical skills.Youll investigate current trends and research which will help you to develop a systematic approach to security policy and planning.To enhance your work experience, well help you with an industrial placement or industry-based project, whichll also extend your study time.

Modules

This module assumes you have previous experience with an imperative programming language and teaches key software development skills using a single object-oriented language. The module will enable you to design and develop applications for your projects using an object-oriented language. It reinforces fundamental problem-solving and programming and reviews OO concepts. It examines the problems of multi-threaded programming and data communication using sockets.
