By taking our programme you’ll become a leader in Sports Medicine. We’ll teach you evidence-based practice to deliver safe and effective care to those engaging in sport. Our course includes a contemporary collection of modules and there are options to suit general practitioners, physiotherapists, sports therapists and sports rehabilitators. Whether you’re currently working in sport or aspire to at any level, we’ll enhance your skills in assessment, management and rehabilitation of sports injuries and common medical conditions. Our course is flexible and it’s been developed with feedback from clinical partners and alumni. You’ll be taught by staff and researchers who have worked in the field of Sports Medicine from grass roots sports to National team level. Study this programme full-time over 1 year or part-time over 2-5 years, and discuss flexible options with our course leader. Our programme will enable you to pursue a career in Sports Medicine, or continue with your education.
This module aims to provide you with the opportunity to develop and apply research methodologies in a specific area of interest within the field of professional practice and help build your confidence in conducting independent research activities.
This module will give you the opportunity to undertake and develop the required decision-making process and practical skills necessary to deal with both minor and life-threatening sport and exercise related injuries and illness. You will also be able to apply acute management strategies of sporting injuries on and off the field of play and you will understand the roles and responsibilities of the MDT in the immediate care of the injured athlete.

To enrol for this module, first you must complete MB4066 - Research Methods for Clinical Practice, Education and Management.
This module will provide you with the opportunity to explore the role of physical activity in maintenance of health, the prevention of disease and the management of a range of significant disorders.
This module aims to introduce you to the field of applied sport and exercise psychology. The content of the module focuses on the introduction of psychological interventions developed from relevant psychological models or theories, to aid you in recognising common psychological issues/disorders experienced by individuals in sport and exercise settings, such as performance anxiety or exercise addiction. The theoretical grounding will enable you to implement those practical skills relevant to their scope of professional practice. Issues of ethical and professional conduct in the practice of sport and exercise psychology will also be covered.
This module will allow you to demonstrate a critical understanding of the common epidemiological and aetiological factors contributing to injury in the athletic population. Enable you to identify and distinguish common injuries seen in sport. Provide you with the underpinning evidence base and practical skills to be able to rehabilitate an athlete to full functional sporting activity.
This module aims to introduce you to the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate clinical questions in health and social care.
The aim of this module is to equip you with the knowledge, techniques and skills to undertake research projects. You will examine philosophical issues and their relevance to applied research.
This module will develop your skills to facilitate high-level skill development in critical reading and interpretation of primary research sources relating to contemporary sport and exercise science. You'll explore the literature surrounding key contemporary areas in sport and exercise science research and develop high levels of clinical testing and interpretation skills in relation to the role of a sport medicine professional, and develop independent learning.
