Our research focuses on the science and applications of light from X-rays to mid-infrared wavelengths. We use and develop novel light sources, including advanced lasers and X-rays for spectroscopy and materials characterisation, bio and chemical sensors and imaging, materials processing and integrated optical devices engineering. These are important for technological breakthroughs with the objective of ‘Photonics for Life’. Researchers in the group have expertise in Ultrafast laser plasma materials processing, X-ray/UV/vis photon techniques, Laser induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), Multiscale and Electromagnetic modelling, Vision science, Photovoltaic materials, Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy, nanophotonics, optical waveguide engineering and photonic integration, fibre optics, biophotonic materials, laser glass engineering, nonlinear optics and non-invasive and in vitro sensors.
