Our research addresses key challenges in climate change and impacts science. We tackle problems with direct societal consequences including melting ice caps, the links between air quality and climate, and food security. By translating new understanding from past and present climates, we deliver high quality research into climate change and its impacts that helps to inform future planning and adaptation decisions. We play a major role in developing and exploiting state-of-the-art observations and modelling tools of the climate, including new satellite observations, climate and Earth system models, land surface and crop models. We have leading roles in major international science projects, including the European Space Agency CryoSat mission and climate modelling activities within the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project and the Paleoclimate Model Intercomparison Project.
